Eindhoven is a city in North Brabant, the Netherlands, with about 250,000 people, first granted city rights in 1232. It grew from a small medieval town into one of the country’s main industrial and technology centres, especially after Philips began producing light bulbs here in 1891. Today Eindhoven is best known for design, innovation, nightlife and its strong link to the Brainport region, with former Philips sites such as Strijp-S transformed into creative districts with bars, restaurants, venues and cultural spaces. Key sights include the Philips Museum, Van Abbemuseum, the Evoluon, Strijp-S and the modern city centre around the station and Markt. Eindhoven is also a practical base in the south of the Netherlands, with good rail links to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Antwerp and Düsseldorf, and international access via Eindhoven Airport.
