El Segundo is a small coastal city in Los Angeles County with about 17,000–18,000 people, incorporated in 1917 and best known for aerospace and defence—an “Aerospace Corridor” base for companies like Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and Boeing—alongside Chevron’s long-established refinery. It sits just south of LAX and north of Manhattan Beach, with a compact Main Street core, wide parks and a laid-back “Mayberry by the Sea” reputation despite the heavy industry next door. Highlights include the walkable downtown strip, the El Segundo Museum of Art, and easy beach access via the El Segundo Beach / Dockweiler area, plus quick bike rides along the Strand. Getting in and around is straightforward via LAX, the Metro C Line (Aviation/LAX area) and major roads like Sepulveda and the 105/405, while the city itself is easy to cover on foot or by bike.
