Fuengirola is a seaside city on the Costa del Sol in Málaga province, Spain, with about 85,000 people. Set between Málaga and Marbella, it grew from ancient coastal settlements and a small fishing town into one of the coast’s busiest resort centres, known for its long beaches, hotel-lined seafront and large international community. Key sights include the Sohail Castle above the river mouth, the Roman remains at Finca del Secretario, Bioparc Fuengirola, the marina and the long Paseo Marítimo, which runs for several kilometres along the beach. The city has a practical, walkable centre with restaurants, bars and shops close to the shore, and it works well as a base for day trips along the Costa del Sol. Getting in and around is straightforward via the C1 commuter train linking Fuengirola with Málaga, Málaga Airport and nearby coastal towns.
