Helsinki Deathfest is a death metal festival in Helsinki, Finland. It began in 2016 as a one-day event focused on Finnish bands and later developed into a larger festival with an international profile. Over time, it has established itself as one of Finland’s more dedicated festivals for death metal and closely related extreme styles.
The festival has been held at different venues in Helsinki, including Ääniwalli and later Tiivistämö in the Suvilahti area. Its history reflects gradual growth from a small underground event into a regular two-day festival, while side events and special editions have also been arranged under the same name.
Helsinki Deathfest is known for a firmly death-metal-oriented identity rather than a broad metal profile. Past editions have featured bands such as Demilich, Grave, Autopsy, Abhorrence, Convulse, Blood Incantation, Coffins, Rotten Sound and Funebrarum, which places the festival within the old-school and underground end of the extreme metal scene.
