Hull, officially Kingston upon Hull, is a port city in East Yorkshire, England, with about 267,000 people. Set where the River Hull meets the Humber Estuary, it developed from a medieval trading port into one of Britain’s major fishing, whaling and maritime cities. The compact centre mixes old docks, Victorian streets and post-war rebuilding, with key sights including Hull Minster, the Museums Quarter, the marina, The Deep aquarium and the old town around High Street. Hull is also known for poet Philip Larkin, its strong independent music and pub culture, and its year as UK City of Culture in 2017. Getting in and around is straightforward via Hull Paragon Interchange, local buses and road links across the Humber and towards York, Leeds and the wider Yorkshire coast.
