Kaaos Festival is a two-day metal festival held in the Vaskiluoto district of Vaasa, Finland. Established in 2025, the festival takes place on the grounds of the former Wasalandia amusement park, which closed in 2015. It was created through a collaboration between Finnish metal publication Kaaoszine and WsArena Oy, the organisers behind Lisää Löylyä.
The idea developed after Kaaoszine editor-in-chief Arto Mäenpää approached WsArena about a possible collaboration with Lisää Löylyä. Promoter Ari Rintamäki instead suggested creating an entirely new festival, giving Kaaoszine the opportunity to develop an event of its own. From the beginning, the programme was designed to cover a broad spectrum of metal rather than concentrating on a single subgenre.
The first Kaaos Festival was held on 25 and 26 July 2025 and attracted more than 3,000 visitors. Raised Fist and Leprous headlined the two days, with The Haunted, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Turmion Kätilöt, Bloodred Hourglass, In Mourning, …And Oceans and Graphic Nature also appearing. The festival also featured some less common performances, including Catamenia’s first concert in more than six years.
Kaaos Festival returned in July 2026 with The Halo Effect and Beast In Black as headliners. The programme included Insomnium, Dead By April, Warmen, The Crown, Illdisposed, Rotten Sound, Machinae Supremacy and Ryujin. Several bands also presented special sets. Former Nightwish singer Anette Olzon performed material from “Dark Passion Play” and “Imaginaerum”, while Rotten Sound focused on songs from “Murderworks” and “Exit”. Vaasa band Misantropia returned to the stage after an absence of more than 30 years.
The festival is restricted to visitors aged 18 and over and continues to use the former Wasalandia grounds, giving it an unusual setting among Finnish metal festivals. With the amusement park gone, the site has been repurposed for concerts and events, and Kaaos Festival has quickly become one of the larger metal events in the Vaasa region.
