KULTTUURITALO

Kulttuuritalo, also known in English as the House of Culture, is a concert and cultural venue in Alppila, Helsinki, Finland, with a capacity of 1,452 people. Designed by Alvar Aalto, it opened in 1958 and is regarded as one of the notable buildings of his red-brick period. It was the first public building Aalto designed in Helsinki and has an important place in both the city’s architectural history and its concert life.

The venue developed into a major concert hall from an early stage. Trial concerts were held before the official opening, and its acoustics were quickly praised. During the following decades, Kulttuuritalo became a regular setting for concerts, recordings and other cultural events, with Yleisradio later using the large hall for recordings and for the Radio Symphony Orchestra’s rehearsals and concerts.

For metal and hard rock audiences, Kulttuuritalo is relevant as one of Helsinki’s established indoor concert venues rather than as a specialist metal club. Its size and central role in the city’s live music scene have made it a regular stage for heavier touring acts alongside artists from many other genres. Notable artists who have played at the venue include: Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Metallica, Judas Priest, Motörhead, Dio, and Slayer.
