LAKE BODOM

Lake Bodom is a Finnish lake located in the city of Espoo, not far from Helsinki. The lake is notorious for being the site of a triple homicide that occurred in the early morning hours of 5 June 1960, when four teenagers went on a camping trip there and were mysteriously attacked while sleeping in their tent. Three were killed and one survived.

The Finnish melodic death metal band Children of Bodom, who are also from Espoo, derived their name from the lake. In order to sign with Spinefarm Records, the band was required to adopt a new name because they had previously signed a contract with Shiver Records under the name Inearthed. The band found the story of the Lake Bodom murders compelling and drew inspiration from it. After compiling a long list of possible names involving the word “Bodom”, they eventually settled on Children of Bodom.

Children of Bodom have several songs with “Bodom” in the title, including “Lake Bodom”, “Bodom Beach Terror” and “Silent Night, Bodom Night”. They also released a compilation album titled “Holiday at Lake Bodom (15 Years of Wasted Youth)”, which features numerous tracks from their career.

Many other Children of Bodom songs also reference Lake Bodom, such as “One Bottle and a Knee Deep”, “Bodom Blue Moon (The Second Coming)” and, of course, “Children of Bodom”.
