LARNACA

Larnaca is a coastal city in Cyprus with about 50,000 people in the city itself and a larger urban area around it. It is one of the island’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, with roots going back to ancient Kition, an important city-kingdom linked to Phoenician, Greek and later Roman history. Today Larnaca is best known for its seafront promenade at Finikoudes, its marina, beaches and relaxed harbour-city atmosphere, as well as being one of Cyprus’s main gateways through Larnaca International Airport. Key sights include the Church of Saint Lazarus, Larnaca Castle, the old Turkish quarter of Skala, the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque and the nearby Salt Lake, where flamingos are often seen in winter. The city is compact and easy to explore on foot around the waterfront and old centre, with road and bus links to Nicosia, Limassol, Ayia Napa and the rest of southern Cyprus.
