Larvik is a coastal city in Vestfold, Norway, with about 48,000 people in the municipality, known for its long shoreline, maritime identity and strong ties to the Larvikite stone industry. Founded as a town in 1671, it has a compact centre around the harbour and train station, with easy walks along the waterfront and out to beaches and smooth coastal rocks. Key sights include the 17th-century Herregården manor house, the coastal recreation areas at Batteristranda and Hvittensand, and the nearby Mølen UNESCO Global Geopark coastline with its distinctive stone beaches and geological formations. Larvik is also a classic gateway to the Skagerrak: Color Line ferries link the port with Hirtshals in Denmark, while the Vestfold Line and E18 make travel to Oslo and the wider region straightforward.
