Limassol is a coastal city in Cyprus with more than 200,000 people in the wider urban area, making it the island’s second-largest city. Set on the south coast between the ancient sites of Amathus and Kourion, it has roots going back to antiquity but grew especially as a major port, commercial centre and resort city. Limassol is best known for its seafront promenade, marina, old town and castle area, as well as its wine, carnival and festival culture. Key sights include Limassol Castle and the Cyprus Medieval Museum, the old harbour and marina, the Molos waterfront, the Archaeological Museum and nearby day trips to Kourion, Kolossi Castle and the Troodos wine villages. Getting in and around is straightforward by road and intercity bus from Larnaca, Paphos and Nicosia, with Larnaca and Paphos airports both practical gateways.
