LIVERPOOL

Liverpool is a major port city in Merseyside, England, with about 486,000 people in the city and a wider city region of more than 1.5 million. Founded as a borough by King John in 1207, it grew into one of Britain’s great maritime and trading cities, later shaped by docks, migration, industry, football and music. The city is best known for The Beatles, its two major football clubs, Liverpool FC and Everton, and its waterfront around the Royal Albert Dock and Pier Head. Key sights include the Museum of Liverpool, the Maritime Museum, the Cavern Quarter, Liverpool Cathedral, the Metropolitan Cathedral, St George’s Hall and the Baltic Triangle. Liverpool also has a strong rock, punk and metal history, with bars, clubs, record shops and venues spread through the city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods. Getting in and around is straightforward via Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Lime Street railway station, Merseyrail, buses and ferries across the Mersey.
