Metallica’s late bassist, Cliff Burton, attended Marshall Elementary School. Hidden behind the playground at Marshall Elementary in Castro Valley, where he and his family lived, there is a memorial plaque dedicated to Cliff, his brother Scott, and others who were students or teachers at the school. On Cliff’s stone it is written “Thank you for your beautiful music.” Not far from the elementary school you can find Marshall High School, where they have a “Cliff Burton Tribute Staircase”.
