Port Talbot is a coastal town in Neath Port Talbot, Wales, with about 31,500 people, set on Swansea Bay between Swansea and the Afan Valley. Modern Port Talbot grew out of older settlements such as Aberavon, Taibach, Margam and Baglan, and took shape around harbour development, heavy industry and steelmaking in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is best known for Port Talbot Steelworks, one of the largest industrial sites in Britain, whose blast furnaces and shoreline works dominate the town’s identity and skyline. Key sights include Aberavon Beach, Margam Country Park, Margam Castle, the ruins of Margam Abbey and walking routes into the Afan Forest Park and surrounding hills. The town also works as a practical stop on the South Wales coast, with rail and road links toward Swansea, Cardiff and the wider valleys region.
