SIBIU

Sibiu is a city in central Romania, located in the historical region of Transylvania, about 275 km (171 mi) northwest of Bucharest. It sits along the Cibin River, a tributary of the Olt, and today serves as the seat of Sibiu County. Historically, Sibiu held great importance—between 1692 and 1791, and again from 1849 to 1865, it was the capital of the Principality of Transylvania.

Known for its Germanic heritage, medieval architecture and cultural vibrancy, Sibiu is one of Romania’s most picturesque and historically rich cities. It has long been a meeting point between cultures and retains much of its Saxon charm in its old town squares, fortified walls and colourful houses with their iconic “eye” windows.
