Sinj is a small inland town in Dalmatia, Croatia, with about 23,000 people in the wider town area, set in the Cetina region around 30 km north of Split. It is best known for the Sinjska Alka, a traditional knights’ tournament held every August since the early 18th century to commemorate the local victory over Ottoman forces in 1715. The town’s main landmarks include the Church of Our Lady of Sinj, the hilltop remains of the old fortress, the Museum of the Cetina Region and the dedicated Alka Museum, while the surrounding countryside offers rivers, karst fields and mountain views typical of the Dalmatian hinterland. Sinj works well as a day trip or quieter base away from the coast, with road and bus connections to Split and nearby towns in inland Dalmatia.
