Skråen is a live music and cultural venue at Kjellerups Torv 5 in Aalborg, Denmark. Founded in 1978, it presents concerts across a wide range of genres alongside stand-up comedy, talks and other cultural events. Since 2009, Skråen has been based inside Nordkraft, the former Aalborg power station that was converted into a major cultural complex. Its main concert spaces are the Skråen hall, with a capacity of around 650, and the larger Royal Stage, which can accommodate up to 1,300 standing or 900 seated spectators. A smaller Lounge is also used for concerts and other events.
Skråen began in C.W. Obel’s former tobacco factory on Strandvejen, where it was initially run entirely by volunteers. Over time it developed into a professional concert organisation while continuing to rely on a large volunteer workforce. In 2009, Skråen moved to Nordkraft as part of the redevelopment of the former industrial site into a centre for music, theatre, cinema, sport and other cultural activities. Nordkraft had originally opened as a coal-fired power station in 1947, and much of its industrial architecture was preserved during the conversion, giving the venue a distinctive setting with large open spaces and visible traces of the building’s former use.
Skråen operates as a non-profit association, with revenue reinvested in concerts and cultural activities. Around 300 events are organised each year, both at Nordkraft and elsewhere in Aalborg. These include the outdoor Skovrock concerts in Skovdalen and Fredagsfest in Karolinelund. The two main indoor stages allow Skråen to host productions of very different sizes, from club-scale concerts in the main hall to larger touring acts on Royal Stage.
Rock and metal are a regular part of the programme. Skråen has worked closely with Aalborg Rock & Metal, which has organised individual concerts as well as the recurring Vintermetal event at the venue. Bands appearing through these events have included Svartsot, Grimner, Arkona, Hate and Patriarkh, while Alcest, Mercenary and Urne were among the metal acts booked at Skråen in 2026. Together with its broader rock programme, this has made Skråen one of Aalborg’s established venues for Danish and international rock and metal concerts.
