THE BANSHEE LABYRINTH

The Banshee Labyrinth is a rock, metal and alternative pub and live music venue in Edinburgh, Scotland. Known as Scotland’s Most haunted pub. Located on Niddry Street in the Old Town, close to the Royal Mile, it is built into one of the city’s old underground spaces and has a naturally dark and slightly creepy atmosphere.

The venue is much larger than it first appears, with many small and large rooms spread across the ground floor and basement level. It lives up to the Labyrinth name: the layout feels maze-like, and it is easy to lose track of where you are while moving between the different bars, rooms and corridors. The venue also includes a cinema used for cult film screenings and a separate games room with a pool table.

The horror theme is carried through much of the interior. Skeletons, dark paintings, old horror film posters, torture instruments and other macabre objects decorate the rooms. One of the most memorable features is a full-size pillory, adding to the pub’s haunted-house character.

The Banshee Labyrinth has a broad alternative programme, including rock and metal gigs, punk shows, open mic nights, karaoke, comedy, horror screenings and other events. The drinks menu also follows the dark theme, with names such as Zombie, Blackdeath, Ghostbuster, Count Buckula and Dracula’s Bite. Rock, metal, punk and goth all form part of the atmosphere, making the venue one of Edinburgh’s most distinctive underground pubs.
