TNT was founded in 1982 in Trondheim, Norway, by vocalist/guitarist Dag Ingebrigtsen, guitarist Ronni Le Tekrø, bassist Steinar Eikum, and drummer Morten “Diesel” Dahl. Their self-titled debut album came the same year, and in 1984 American singer Tony Harnell joined the band, taking TNT to an international level with Knights of the New Thunder and Tell No Tales.

In the early years, the members were mainly from Trondheim and Trøndelag. Dag Ingebrigtsen is from Trondheim, as is Diesel Dahl. Morty Black (Morten Skaget), who joined on bass in 1983, is also from Trondheim. Ronni Le Tekrø was born in Oslo, grew up on Toten, and moved to Trondheim before establishing his musical base. Sid Ringsby, who played bass for the band in later years, is from Hemnes but now lives in Bjørkelangen. Baol Bardot Bulsara, TNT’s vocalist from 2017 to 2022, comes from Madrid, Spain.

Today the members are spread across Norway and abroad. Ronni Le Tekrø lives on Toten, where he runs Studio Studio Nyhagen in Bøverbru. Morty Black lives in Trondheim. Diesel Dahl is still based in Trondheim. Dag Ingebrigtsen remains in Trondheim. Sid Ringsby resides in Bjørkelangen. Tony Harnell divides his time between Norway and the United States.

Two former TNT members have passed away. Keyboardist Dag Stokke (1967–2011) died of cancer on 27 April 2011 at the age of 44. He was from Gjøvik and is buried at Vardal Church Cemetery in Gjøvik, where he lived. Vocalist Tony Mills (1962–2019), who sang with TNT from 2006 to 2013, died of pancreatic cancer on 18 September 2019 at the age of 57. He is buried at Tjøme Church Cemetery in Vestfold, Norway.
