Torrevieja is a Costa Blanca seaside city of roughly 90,000 people, shaped mainly in the 19th century when Spain’s salt administration shifted operations here (from nearby La Mata) and the town grew around the salt trade. Today it’s best known for its beaches and long waterfront promenade, plus the two salt lagoons—especially the famous pink lake—protected as the Natural Park of the Lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja, where you can often spot flamingos. In the centre you’ll find easy-going holiday streets, a marina vibe, and small sights tied to local identity like the Museum of the Sea and Salt, while the town works well as a base for day trips along the Alicante coast.
