Valhalla Rock Pub is a dedicated metal pub in western Lisbon, Portugal. Located in the Belém/Ajuda area, it is a purposefully metal-oriented bar that attracts fans of heavy music rather than a general neighbourhood crowd.
The pub consists of one elongated room, giving it more space than many smaller metal bars while still keeping a direct and social bar atmosphere. The music is controlled from behind the bar and covers a wide range of metal rather than a general rock playlist. Classic heavy metal, power metal and thrash metal sit alongside more extreme styles such as black metal and death metal, with both well-known songs and more obscure fan favourites forming part of the soundtrack.
The interior is heavily decorated with metal and Viking-inspired details. Posters, guitars and other objects cover the walls, while the wider theme fits the Valhalla name. One of the more memorable details is found by the toilets, where Lemmy is painted on the door to the men’s room and Doro on the door to the women’s room.
Valhalla Rock Pub also serves food from a typical bar menu, alongside beer and other drinks. The beer selection includes brands such as Iron Maiden’s Trooper and Gulden Draak, adding to the pub’s heavy metal and old-world beer character.
