Valhalla York is a Viking-themed rock and metal pub in York, England. Located close to The Shambles in the historic city centre, it opened in September 2017 and combines York’s Viking history with a soundtrack built around hard rock and heavy metal.
The pub occupies a very old building, which makes the Norse theme feel especially fitting in a city closely associated with Jorvik and the Viking history of northern England. The theme is carried through the whole venue, from the walls, tables and chairs to the food and drink presentation. Valhalla is spread over more than three floors and also has outdoor seating. When entering the door have a look down below the glass, and you will see a skull, a viking axe, and a drinking horn, welcoming you to Valhalla.
The most impressive room is the top-floor All Father Hall, decorated with a large painting of Odin on the wall and a chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The rest of the pub continues the Viking atmosphere with carved wood, Norse details, drinking horns, mead, ale and rock-bar elements.
Valhalla serves home-cooked food, craft beer, ale and several types of mead. The food includes sharing-board-style dishes, including the Ragnarok board, served with a selection of different small dishes. The music is strongly rooted in hard rock and heavy metal, with classic bands such as Dio and Iron Maiden fitting the pub’s atmosphere.
