Weißer Bär is a long-running hard rock bar at Bolkerstraße 50 in Düsseldorf’s Altstadt, Germany. The Weißer Bär name has been associated with the city’s rock scene since 1972, making it one of Düsseldorf’s older surviving rock pubs. Its own branding still carries the wording “Hard Rock seit 1972”.
The music centres on classic rock and hard rock, with metal and punk also forming part of the regular soundtrack. The interior has the compact, straightforward character of a traditional drinking and music pub, with loud guitar music and a mix of long-time regulars and visitors to the Altstadt.
The drinks selection reflects its Düsseldorf location, with local Altbier alongside other beers and spirits. Hosen Hell, the lager associated with Düsseldorf punk band Die Toten Hosen, is also available and fits naturally with the bar’s long-standing rock identity.
Weißer Bär sits directly on Bolkerstraße, one of the main nightlife streets in Düsseldorf’s Altstadt. A separate Brauhaus zum Weißen Bären opened at Bolkerstraße 63 in 2016 under the same operation, combining a traditional Düsseldorf brewhouse and restaurant with the Weißer Bär hard rock branding. The original rock bar remains at Bolkerstraße 50.
