West Hollywood is a small but famous city in Los Angeles County with around 35,000 residents, incorporated in 1984 and packed into less than two square miles between Beverly Hills and Hollywood. It’s best known for the Sunset Strip, whose clubs and venues helped shape rock history, including Whisky a Go Go, The Roxy Theatre, Rainbow Bar & Grill and Viper Room. Santa Monica Boulevard is the city’s other main spine, known for LGBTQ+ nightlife, bars, restaurants and Pride events, while the Design District adds galleries, fashion and interior-design showrooms. West Hollywood is very walkable by Los Angeles standards, with most sights, hotels and venues clustered along Sunset Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue. Getting in is easiest by car, rideshare or bus from Hollywood, Beverly Hills or central Los Angeles, with LAX and Hollywood Burbank Airport both within practical reach depending on traffic.
