Wolverhampton is a West Midlands city of about 264,000 people (2021), with origins as an Anglo-Saxon settlement associated with Lady Wulfrun, who secured a charter in 985 and gave the city its name. It grew rapidly during the Industrial Revolution as a centre for metalworking, locks, japanning and engineering, and today it’s best known for its football culture (Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux), its Victorian-era streets and civic buildings, and a strong live-music and pub scene.
