Shark ’N’ Roll is a long-running rock and metal merchandise shop at József körút 49 in Budapest, Hungary. Its history dates back to 1988, when founder István Sárosi opened a small music shop called Hangvárium at József körút 59, selling blank cassettes and imported records from countries including Austria and Yugoslavia. In 1992, the business was renamed Shark and developed into one of Hungary’s early specialist retailers of rock and metal band clothing. It moved to its present address in 1994.

During the 1990s, Shark became closely associated with Hungary’s growing rock and metal scene, producing and distributing merchandise for domestic bands alongside international artists. Musicians from groups such as Tankcsapda and Ossian were among the shop’s regular visitors, while the premises also hosted signing sessions, record launches and other music-related activities. The Hungarian television programme Rocktükör even broadcast from the shop, featuring bands including Moby Dick and Sex Action.

As physical music sales declined during the 2000s, merchandise became an increasingly important part of the business. Today, Shark ’N’ Roll specialises in band T-shirts, hoodies and other clothing, alongside patches, wristbands, pendants, jewellery, mugs, posters and various rock and metal accessories. The selection also includes Gothic and horror-themed products, skull ornaments, film merchandise and collectables.

The business continues to operate from József körút 49 alongside its online store, retaining the rock and metal identity established during its early years as Shark. With roots stretching back to 1988, it is one of Budapest’s longest-running specialist businesses connected with heavy music.
