Thunder Fest is an independent metal festival held in Bytów, in northern Poland. It takes place in the courtyard of the Teutonic Castle in Bytów, a historic fortress that gives the event a distinctive setting. Thunder Fest has been staged in Bytów since 2010 and has operated under its current name since 2013. Its programme focuses on alternative and metal music, including both heavier and more extreme styles.
The festival grew out of Bytów’s local alternative music scene and was founded by Marcin Szczepański of the band The Black Thunder, who began organising it as a way of bringing notable Polish acts to local audiences. Over the years, Thunder Fest has presented a mix of Polish and international bands. Official and event listings name artists such as Vader, Pestilence, Rotting Christ, Venom Inc., Wolfbrigade, Azarath, FURIA and In Twilight’s Embrace among its previous performers. Recent editions have continued the one-day castle-courtyard format in Bytów.
