Café Voodoo is a bar in Vienna, Austria, with a long-standing place in the city’s alternative nightlife. It is owned by Alexander Wank of Pungent Stench, the same person behind Totem Records, and the two places are located close to one another in the Neubau district. That connection links Café Voodoo directly to Vienna’s metal underground as well as its independent record-shop culture.
Unlike Totem Records, Café Voodoo is not primarily a specialist metal venue, but a bar with a broader rock-oriented identity. It has been associated especially with 1960s and 1970s music, giving it a wider musical profile than a dedicated hard rock or metal pub. Even so, its ownership and place within the same local network make it relevant to Vienna’s heavier music culture.
Café Voodoo is therefore notable less for functioning as a pure metal bar than for its connection to one of the best-known figures in Austrian death metal and for its close relationship to Totem Records. Together, the two places form a small but recognisable part of Vienna’s alternative music landscape.
