Cave Art Venue is a live music venue located at 1388 Kaixuan Road in the Changning district of Shanghai, China. Opened in May 2025, it was established by the people behind Cave, a heavy metal bar that opened in Shanghai in 2023. The venue has a capacity of approximately 450 people and was created to accommodate larger concerts, particularly within the city’s underground rock and metal scene.

Cave Art Venue occupies the lower level of the IM Shanghai complex, with access through an open-air sunken courtyard. The concert hall has a relatively simple black-box design, with dark walls, a large stage, professional sound and lighting equipment, and an open standing area in front of the stage. A small bar is situated to the left of the concert area. Unlike a traditional nightclub, the space is primarily designed for live performances, with few decorative elements beyond the stage equipment.

Although the venue hosts several musical genres, including alternative rock, punk, post-rock and experimental music, extreme metal forms an important part of its programme. Among the international bands that have performed there are Ulthar, Wormrot, Butcher ABC, Kruelty, Savage Deity, Cryptic Shift, Slimelord, Cenotaph, Rottenness and Mortal Sin. Chinese underground bands are also regularly featured, including Mvltifission, Eviscerator and Conch. In addition to individual concerts, Cave Art Venue hosts multi-band events covering death metal, black metal, grindcore, sludge and hardcore. Since opening, it has provided Shanghai’s underground metal scene with a dedicated concert space capable of accommodating both local bands and international touring acts.
