KEBRA DISC

Kebra Disc is an independent record store located at Carrer de les Sitges 3 in the El Raval neighbourhood of Barcelona, Spain. Established on 5 December 1983 by three business partners, including Jordi Quinquillà, the shop is one of Barcelona’s longstanding independent music retailers. Quinquillà originally wanted to create a record shop inspired by the second-hand and collectors’ stores of London’s Portobello Road. The business gradually expanded, at one point occupying three premises on the same street, with separate spaces for new records, merchandise and other goods. It later returned to its original premises at number 3, close to Carrer dels Tallers, an area historically associated with Barcelona’s record shops.

During the 1980s, Kebra Disc developed close connections with the city’s emerging punk and independent music scenes. Local bands began bringing their demo recordings to the shop, while customers introduced the owners to underground releases that were difficult to find elsewhere. The store became an outlet for Catalan punk and hardcore recordings, including early material by Subterranean Kids, as well as music associated with the Basque radical rock movement. Independent fanzines were also distributed through the shop, making it part of Barcelona’s underground music network.

Kebra Disc stocks a varied collection of new and second-hand vinyl records, CDs and cassettes, covering progressive rock, psychedelic rock, garage rock, punk, hardcore, hard rock, heavy metal and numerous other genres. The selection is particularly strong in recordings from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, including original pressings, reissues and collectors’ editions. Heavy metal is also represented through records and band patches, although the shop is not exclusively devoted to the genre. The relatively small interior retains the appearance of a traditional record shop, with shelves and record bins packed closely together. Quinquillà remains closely associated with the business and is known for his extensive knowledge of music and unusual recordings.
