Trollhättan is a city in Västra Götaland County, Sweden, with about 59,000 people in the municipality, set on the Göta älv river near Lake Vänern. It grew around the powerful Trollhättan Falls and the canal-and-lock system that allowed shipping to bypass the rapids, later becoming an important industrial city through hydropower, engineering and companies such as NOHAB and Saab. Today Trollhättan is best known for the waterfall area, the historic locks, the Saab Car Museum, Innovatum District and its film industry, which has given the city the nickname “Trollywood” through Film i Väst. Key sights include the Trollhättan Falls, the lock area, Kopparklinten viewpoint, Innovatum Science Center and the riverside walking routes through Älvrummet. Getting in and around is straightforward by rail, bus and road, with regional links to Gothenburg, Vänersborg and the wider Västra Götaland region.
