CARREG CENNEN CASTLE

Carreg Cennen Castle is a dramatic medieval ruin perched on a limestone crag about 90–100 metres above the River Cennen near Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, offering wide views over the Brecon Beacons. The stone fortress largely dates to the late 13th century, probably built for Edward I’s baron John Giffard on a site earlier linked to the Welsh ruler known as the Lord Rhys. A natural limestone cave runs beneath the castle and can be explored with a torch. The privately run site includes a small tea room and is open year-round with seasonal hours.

Iron Maiden’s 1992 Fear of the Dark album features inside-cover photos taken at two different locations. The band can be seen wearing two sets of outfits across the shoots—one at Carreg Cennen Castle and the other at Margam Castle.
