Sarge’s Deli

Sarge’s Deli is a New York City deli that is a destination for Kiss fans because Paul Stanley mentioned it in his 2014 memoir “Face the Music”. “After the first two [Madison Square Garden] gigs, the other guys met up with family and friends; I found myself sitting alone at Sarge’s Deli on Third Avenue and 36th Street eating a bowl of matzo ball soup.”

New York rock DJ Carol Miller also writes in her memoir about a night in 1977 when Paul Stanley (whom she did not recognise without the KISS make-up) took her for a late-night bite to Sarge’s Deli on Third Avenue, a “longtime bastion of ungeshtupt (overstuffed), mainly Eastern European Jewish cuisine”. When Stanley’s bandmate Gene Simmons joined them at around 4 a.m., the vibe was less rock star than borscht belt, as they dined on “chicken soup with noodles and matzo balls and kreplach”.

The deli is located at 548 Third Avenue and is known for its classic New York-style deli offerings such as in-house cured corned beef and pastrami.
