ABBOTT BROTHERS’ GRAVES

Abbott Brothers’ Graves are located at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, Texas, and mark the final resting places of Pantera founders and brothers “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott and Vinnie Paul Abbott. The guitarist and drummer grew up in the Dallas–Fort Worth area and formed Pantera in Arlington in 1981, eventually becoming two of the most recognisable musicians in American heavy metal.

Dimebag Darrell was buried at Moore Memorial Gardens after being shot and killed while performing with Damageplan in Columbus, Ohio, on 8 December 2004. He was laid to rest beside his mother, Carolyn Abbott. A lifelong KISS fan, Dimebag was buried in a KISS-branded casket donated by Gene Simmons. Eddie Van Halen also placed his original black-and-yellow 1979 Charvel “Bumblebee” guitar in the casket. Dimebag had previously asked Van Halen about obtaining a replica of the instrument, but Van Halen decided that his friend should have the original.

Vinnie Paul died in Las Vegas on 22 June 2018 and was buried beside his brother and mother on 30 June. Like Dimebag, he was laid to rest in a custom KISS Kasket, provided by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. His permanent bronze grave marker was installed the following year, leaving the two brothers’ markers side by side beneath the Abbott family headstone.

The graves have become a well-known memorial site for Pantera fans, who regularly leave guitar picks, drumsticks, coins and other small tributes. After Dimebag’s grave was repeatedly scratched and damaged by visitors, a black metal fence was installed around the Abbott family plot in 2020. The site remains one of the most significant Pantera-related locations in Arlington, the city where the Abbott brothers grew up and formed the band that would define much of their lives.
