Arlington is a city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area of Texas, United States, with around 402,000 people. Founded along the Texas and Pacific Railway in 1876 and incorporated in 1884, it grew from a small agricultural settlement into one of the largest cities in North Texas. Today Arlington is particularly known for its major sports and entertainment venues, including AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, and Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers, as well as the original Six Flags Over Texas amusement park. The city lies roughly midway between Dallas and Fort Worth and forms part of the continuous urban area connecting the two. Arlington also has a major place in heavy metal history as the birthplace of Pantera, formed here in 1981 by brothers Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell. The band became one of the most influential American metal groups of the 1990s and remains closely associated with the Dallas–Fort Worth scene.
