CHAPEL OF BONES

Chapel of Bones is a metal-focused coffee lounge, bar and live music venue in Raleigh, North Carolina. Located in the West Raleigh area, it opened in 2023 and combines daytime café use with evening drinks, events and live music.

The venue takes its name and inspiration from the Capela dos Ossos in Portugal, and the interior plays with the idea of an ossuary. The decoration uses plastic skulls, bones and painted wall details rather than real human remains, giving the place a theatrical and slightly playful horror atmosphere. One of the most distinctive features is a chandelier made from skulls and bones.

Chapel of Bones functions as a coffee lounge during the day and as a bar, event space and live music venue at night. Its programme includes metal shows, touring and local underground bands, burlesque, goth nights, karaoke, art pop-ups, independent film screenings, community events and other alternative gatherings.

The address also has earlier heavy music history in Raleigh, connected to The Maywood and Volume 11 Tavern before it. This gives Chapel of Bones more context than a standard themed café, placing it within a longer local line of underground rock and metal activity.

With its coffee lounge, bar, stage, ossuary-inspired decoration and heavy music programme, Chapel of Bones has developed into one of Raleigh’s more distinctive spaces for metal and alternative culture.
