L’Angelo Azzurro Club is a rock and metal pub, restaurant and live music venue at Via Borzoli 39C in the Sestri Ponente district of Genoa, Italy. Operated by Katia Daffinoti and Danilo Lombardo, the club has been active since at least 2010 and has a long history within Genoa’s rock and metal scene. It occupies premises in a former industrial complex outside the city centre, combining a pub and restaurant with a dedicated concert area.
The interior is filled with rock and metal memorabilia, band imagery and decorative objects accumulated over the years. The restaurant serves burgers, sandwiches and other meals alongside beer and spirits, while the concert area features a relatively spacious stage with permanent sound and lighting equipment. The musical programme covers classic rock, blues, hard rock, progressive rock, thrash, doom and extreme metal, as well as punk, gothic rock and other alternative styles.
L’Angelo Azzurro has hosted numerous Italian and international musicians. NWOBHM veterans Tygers of Pan Tang performed there in December 2013, while other notable appearances have included Billy Sheehan, Paul Gilbert, Circus Maximus, Stef Burns, Adam Bomb, Cadaveria, Necrodeath, Pino Scotto, Nanowar of Steel and Eldritch. Paul Gilbert also returned to the venue for a guitar clinic in April 2015.
The heavier side of the programme has included Abysmal Grief, Antropofagus, Doomraiser, Shores of Null, Ponte del Diavolo, Barbarian and Hellcrash. The club has also maintained strong connections with the Italian underground scene, with bands such as Desecrate, Tenebrae, Expiatoria, Melting Clock and Il Segno del Comando making repeated appearances over the years.
L’Angelo Azzurro has hosted smaller metal festivals and multi-band events, including Breeding Death Fest in May 2013, which featured Gallery of Senses, In Case of Carnage, Simulacro, Synodik and Toolbox Terror. Tribute concerts and themed evenings are also regular parts of the programme.
