MYSTIC FESTIVAL

Mystic Festival is a metal festival in Poland. It was founded in 1999 in Kraków and later moved between several Polish cities before finding a more permanent home in Gdańsk. After running in different forms in Kraków, Katowice, Chorzów and Wrocław, the festival was discontinued after 2007, returned in 2019, and has been held in the Gdańsk Shipyard area since 2022.

Over time, Mystic Festival has grown into one of the largest metal festivals in Poland. Its profile is broad rather than tied to a single subgenre, covering traditional heavy metal, thrash metal, death metal, black metal, metalcore and related styles. The festival’s history includes appearances by bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Slayer, Slipknot, Nightwish, Gojira and Sleep Token, showing how it combines established international names with newer acts from across the metal spectrum.

Its present setting in the former shipyard area of Gdańsk has become one of its defining characteristics. Unlike a remote camping festival, Mystic is organised as a large urban event, and its move to Gdańsk helped give it a stronger identity as a city-based metal festival with multiple stages and an industrial backdrop.
