NACHTEXPRESS GRAZ

Nachtexpress is a long-running rock and metal bar at Färberplatz in the historic centre of Graz, Austria. Established in 1989, it has been part of the city’s nightlife for more than three decades and has built a strong following among rock, metal and alternative music fans.

The bar uses the motto “Laut und rockig” – “Loud and rockin’” – and recorded music is central to the experience. Four screens positioned around the premises continuously show music videos, while the soundtrack ranges from classic hard rock and heavy metal to 1980s and 1990s rock.

Bands regularly heard at Nachtexpress include Metallica, Rammstein, Iron Maiden, System of a Down, Slipknot and AC/DC. The musical profile is broad enough to cover several generations of rock and metal without losing its heavy focus.

The interior is informal and deliberately unpolished, with a dark, well-used atmosphere that reflects its long history as a late-night rock bar. Decades of regular use have given the place a slightly rough character, with worn surfaces and the kind of lived-in appearance associated with older independent music bars.

Since opening in 1989, Nachtexpress has remained one of Graz’s established rock and metal meeting places, combining loud music, music videos and a straightforward bar setting in the centre of the old town.
