Norrköping is a city in Östergötland, Sweden, with around 145,000 people in the municipality. It received its city privileges in 1384 and developed around the Motala ström, whose fast-flowing water helped turn Norrköping into one of Sweden’s most important industrial centres. Textile and paper production dominated for centuries, and many of the old brick factories along the river have since been converted into museums, university buildings, restaurants and cultural spaces, forming the distinctive Industrilandskapet in the heart of the city. Other notable sights include the Museum of Work, Norrköping City Museum and the nearby Kolmården Wildlife Park, while the compact centre is served by one of Sweden’s few remaining tram systems. Norrköping also has some significant modern music history: Bråvalla Festival was held here from 2013 to 2017 and became Sweden’s largest music festival, with rock and metal acts including Rammstein, Iron Maiden, Trivium and Five Finger Death Punch among its performers.
