Prague is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic, with about 1.3 million people and more than 1,100 years of history as a political, cultural and trading centre in Bohemia. Set on the Vltava River, it is best known for its UNESCO-listed historic centre, Gothic and Baroque skyline, old bridges, beer halls and dense network of music venues and late bars. Key sights include Prague Castle, St Vitus Cathedral, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square with the Astronomical Clock, the Jewish Quarter and Vyšehrad, while neighbourhoods such as Žižkov, Vinohrady and Holešovice add clubs, pubs, galleries and local nightlife beyond the tourist core. Getting in and around is straightforward via Václav Havel Airport, Praha hlavní nádraží railway station, and the city’s metro, tram and bus network.
