RAGNE WAHLQUIST’S GRAVE

Ragne Wahlquist was the guitarist, vocalist and principal songwriter of Heavy Load, the band widely regarded as Sweden’s first true heavy metal band, and he remains one of the foundational figures in Swedish heavy metal history. Through Heavy Load, Wahlquist helped establish an epic and distinctly Scandinavian form of heavy metal on albums such as Full Speed at High Level, Death or Glory, Stronger Than Evil and Riders of the Ancient Storm. His importance to the genre extends beyond Heavy Load itself, since the band is frequently cited as a pioneering force in Swedish metal.

Wahlquist’s grave is at Hammarby kyrkogård in Uppsala, Sweden. The burial register identifies him under his full name, Ragne Folke Herman Wahlquist, with the dates 23 January 1955 to 2 January 2025. He was buried there on 30 January 2025.

He is buried in grave plot 0606 0012 at Hammarby kyrkogård. Here he rests in the same grave as Folke Teodor Ingemar Wahlquist and Lilly Ingeborg Synnöve Wahlquist. For fans of Heavy Load and early Scandinavian metal, the site represents a direct connection to one of the genre’s most important Swedish pioneers.
