Revenge Records is an independent record shop in Osaka, Japan. Located on the third floor of the Nakamura Building in Minamihorie, near Yotsubashi Station, the physical shop opened on 23 December 2016.
The shop specialises in underground punk, hardcore and metal, with a strong focus on Japanese and international DIY releases. Its stock includes vinyl, CDs, cassette tapes, DVDs, VHS, books, fanzines, shirts and other music-related merchandise, with both new and second-hand items available.
Punk and hardcore form the core of Revenge Records’ identity, especially crust punk, D-beat, raw punk, noise punk and Japanese hardcore. The catalogue includes small-label releases, limited pressings and underground titles from Japan and abroad.
Metal also has a substantial place in the shop. Death metal, black metal, thrash metal and other forms of extreme metal appear alongside bands that cross between metal, hardcore and punk. This gives Revenge Records a particularly raw and underground character, shaped by the overlap between extreme metal and Japanese hardcore.
Jacky from the Osaka crust punk band Framtid is strongly associated with Revenge Records and has written release descriptions under the name “Jacky/FRAMTID, Revenge Records”. He is also connected to Crust War, the influential Osaka hardcore label known for releases by Framtid and other underground bands.
Revenge Records also works as a distributor for underground labels and bands, with international mail order in addition to the physical Osaka shop. The store has also sold tickets for underground concerts and festivals, placing it within the same local network as Osaka’s hardcore, punk and extreme metal scenes.
