ROCK BAR SEVENTH

Rock Bar Seventh, stylised as Rock Bar SEVENTH, is a rock bar in Umeda, Osaka, Japan. Located on the third floor of the Umeda Royal Building in Sonezaki, close to Higashi-Umeda Station, it opened on 27 July 2017.

The bar has the hidden feel typical of many small Japanese music bars. It is reached through an ordinary-looking building corridor, with different pubs and bars behind separate doors, making it easy to miss from street level.

Inside, Seventh is larger than the smallest upstairs bars in Osaka. There are seats at the bar as well as several tables, giving the room more of a proper pub feeling while still keeping the intimate character of a local music bar.

Guitars are one of the most striking parts of the interior. A large number of them hang around the walls, turning the room into something between a rock bar, a rehearsal room and a guitarist’s private collection. Some of the instruments can even be taken down and tried, which gives the place a unusually hands-on character.

The bar is built around rock, hard rock, heavy metal and other guitar-based music. A small stage area with instruments makes informal playing part of the atmosphere, and visitors may be invited to get up and perform a song if they feel brave enough.

The friendly mood is a major part of Seventh’s charm. Guests may help translate, start conversations across the language barrier or suddenly pick up a guitar when the right song comes on. During one visit, a customer played a Racer X song while another sang along, which says a lot about the musician-friendly character of the place.
