ROCK CITY

Rock City is a live music venue and nightclub in Nottingham, England. Opened in 1980, it is one of the city’s defining music venues and has long held a central place in British rock and metal touring. The venue grew out of an older entertainment site on Talbot Street and became a major part of Nottingham’s concert culture.

Its history is closely tied to rock and metal. Iron Maiden were the first band booked to play the venue, although construction delays meant The Undertones played the first actual show in December 1980. Over the years, Rock City has hosted artists including David Bowie, Nirvana, Guns N’ Roses and Motörhead, while also serving as an important stage for newer acts and touring metal bands.

Rock City is also notable for its scale. The main venue has a capacity of around 2,000, making it one of the key mid-sized concert halls in the English Midlands. Its long continuity, central location and role on the touring circuit have made it one of Nottingham’s most important rock venues.
