ROCKBAR PAINKILLER

Rockbar Painkiller is a small, purpose-built heavy/HR den out in Kokubunji: 16 seats, black-box acoustics, and theatrical décor (giant skull, a “metal deer” sculpture, antler chandelier) that gives it a gleefully macabre, mini-museum vibe. The house pitch is “roaring playground for hard rock/heavy metal,” and that’s the reality—albums and live videos at proper volume in a tight basement room run by scene die-hards.

It runs true bar hours rather than club late: typically 18:30–23:30, closed Mondays, smoking sadly allowed, with a simple system (¥1,000 cover; optional bottle-keep set) and card payments accepted. Expect occasional micro-gigs or session nights, bartender-guided requests, and a friendly regulars-plus-tourists mix who make the JR Chūō Line hop for a loud, close-quarters hang.
