Saskatoon is the largest city in Saskatchewan, Canada, with about 309,000 people in the city and a wider regional population above 350,000. Set on the South Saskatchewan River, it was founded in 1883 by temperance colonists and later grew as a railway, education and agricultural hub on the Canadian Prairies. The city is often called the “Bridge City” because of its river crossings, and the river valley remains its main scenic feature, with long walking and cycling routes through the Meewasin Valley. Key sights include Remai Modern, the Western Development Museum, the University of Saskatchewan campus, Broadway Avenue, Riversdale and Wanuskewin Heritage Park, an important Indigenous heritage site just north of the city. Saskatoon also has a strong café, craft beer and live-music scene, with venues and bars spread through Downtown, Broadway and nearby neighbourhoods. Getting in and around is straightforward via Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport, local buses, road links across Saskatchewan and VIA Rail services on the Canadian route.
