The Abyss is a heavy metal bar and live venue in Gothenburg, Sweden. Opened in 2016, it has become one of the city’s best-known specialist venues for hard rock and metal. Located on Andra Långgatan near Masthuggstorget, it forms part of Gothenburg’s wider metal scene in a city long associated with heavy music.
The venue hosts concerts, themed nights and its own festival activity, with programmes ranging from death metal and black metal to traditional heavy metal and hard rock. Its event history includes both club gigs and the larger Abyss Festival, which has featured bands such as Possessed, Terrorizer, Deströyer 666, Varathron and Stormwitch.
