Train is a live music venue in Aarhus, Denmark. Located on Kalkværksvej in the Sydhavnen district, it is one of the city’s larger concert venues and presents a broad programme covering rock, metal, pop, hip-hop, electronic music, jazz and other genres.

The venue was founded by Chris Anker-Petersen and opened in April 1998 with the ambition of bringing rock music back to Aarhus. The first concert was performed by Kid Creole and the Coconuts on 3 April 1998, and Train quickly became an established part of the city’s live music scene.

In 2000, Train was designated a Regional Venue by Aarhus Municipality and the Danish Arts Council. It has retained regional venue status through several later funding periods, giving it a formal role in presenting, developing and supporting rhythmic music in Aarhus and the wider region. In 2018, the operation was transferred to the non-profit Train Foundation.

For most of its history, Train was based at Toldbodgade 6C in central Aarhus. The old room had a capacity of around 1,000 people and hosted Danish and international artists across many genres. Iggy Pop, Bryan Ferry, Snoop Dogg and Motörhead were among the major names associated with the venue’s Toldbodgade years.

Rock and metal remained part of the programme throughout the venue’s broader development. Heavy acts at Train have included Motörhead, Machine Head, Trivium and many Danish metal bands, while events such as Metalized Tour brought death metal and extreme metal to the stage. The final concert at the old Toldbodgade venue, on 30 May 2026, was a metal bill with Terrorpy, Lightchapter and He Who Saw the Abyss.

In September 2026, Train moved to a new purpose-built venue in Sydhavnen, the former industrial and harbour area south of central Aarhus. The move was the largest change in the venue’s history and gave Train two independent concert halls under the same roof.

The main Train room has a capacity of 1,500 standing spectators, while the smaller Track room has a capacity of 350. This gives the venue greater flexibility than before, with space for larger touring productions as well as more compact concerts in the smaller hall.

The new venue opened on 11 September 2026 with Thomas Helmig performing the first concert in the new building. The choice connected the opening to Aarhus music history, while the new halls gave Train a larger and more technically modern setting for future concerts.

Heavy music continues to be part of Train’s identity in Sydhavnen. The venue’s size places it in the middle tier between Aarhus’ small underground rooms and the city’s largest halls, making it suitable for established international rock and metal bands as well as larger Danish acts.
