Aarhus is Denmark’s second-largest city, a Jutland waterfront hub of roughly 370,000 people in the municipality, with roots reaching back to the Viking Age and the 8th century. Set on Aarhus Bay, it is known for its mix of old harbour history, student energy and modern culture, with a compact centre that runs from the cathedral and Latin Quarter to the reopened riverfront around Åboulevarden. Key sights include Den Gamle By open-air museum, ARoS with its rainbow panorama, Moesgaard Museum just south of the city, and the redeveloped Aarhus Ø waterfront district. The city has a strong food, bar and live-music scene, helped by Aarhus University and a young population. Getting in and around is straightforward via Aarhus Central Station, local buses and light rail, with Aarhus Airport and Billund Airport serving the wider region.
